Rita Catherine Maldonado

Mokena Custody Attorney

Vice President, Senior Associate

From an early age, it was Rita Maldonado's fondest wish to help families in need. Today, she has realized her dream as a Family Law Attorney, dedicating her law career to helping her clients make it through this difficult phase of their lives.

She began her career at Wakenight & Associates, P.C. in February 2003 as an Associate Attorney, having received her Juris Doctorate from The John Marshall Law School in June 2002 and being admitted to the Bar in November 2002. While attending law school, in addition to her studies, Rita's full calendar included many additional activities, such as the Hispanic Law Society and serving as Secretary of the Children's Law Society. She successfully competed in the prestigious Moot Court Competition, all while also a member of the Choir that performed at functions relative to the law school.

Rita concentrates her practice on litigation of all complex family law issues. Through her extensive experience handling complex custody litigation, she holds the position of Senior Associate at the Mokena and Joliet offices and Vice President of the Divorce and Family Law Offices of Wakenight & Associates, P.C. Rita is a member of the Illinois Bar Association, the Will County Bar Association, and the Chicago Bar Association. In addition to her custody litigation experience Rita has completed the requisite training to represent children in custody cases as a Guardian Ad Litem and in Will County she has been added to the list of court-approved attorneys eligible to serve in this capacity. With compassion, sympathy, and a wealth of experience, Rita has what it takes to effectively serve her clients and find the best solutions.
